Understanding your camera

For the record I am NOT a photographer at all. My husband really enjoys it, especially landscape, wildlife, nature, etc. However, I am more interested in photos of people. I love to take his photos and then photoshop them. Here is the problem; Most of his experience is with nature, not people. So, I am now taking a larger interest in the photo taking itself rather than just the "behind the scenes" photoshopping so that I can capture people pictures knowing how I would photoshop it later.
